Do you dream of having the perfect reef tanks? Of course you do, it’s every reef keepers dream to have stunning and successful reef aquarium. Unfortunately, though, too many times people are not able to have the “perfect” reef tank that they dream of. Fortunately, you don’t have to make those mistakes. If you want to have a successful reef aquarium, all you need to do is keep the following tips in mind.
* Examine your reef tank each and every day, check the creatures as well as the equipment.
* Be sure to regulate the temperature of the tank, making sure it is not too hot or too cold.
* Keep your nitrates and phosphates at the lowest levels possible and check the readings regularly, at least once a week. Adding aquarium plants are a great way to keep these chemicals under control.
* Do not add too many fish to your tank, too many fish in too small of a tank will cause all livestock in your tank to suffer. Give your tank a visual inspection every day.
* Keep the water clean by checking your filtration equipment regularly.
* Monitor your calcium and alkalinity levels and be sure to keep them at the proper levels.
* Do not feed your fish or coral too much food.
* Do not add additives to your tank
* Keep water levels at the proper levels by replacing any water that may evaporate into the air.
* Keep equipment back ups on hand in case your equipment fails.
* Keep premade saltwater on hand so that you can change the water on short notice if necessary.
* Frequently change saltwater as needed to help keep pollutants low
